2.11. Compression

GENERAL INFORMATION

If engine capacity is lowered, fuel consumption is increased or there are interruptions at work idling, check:

– ignition system;
– extent of compression;
– power supply system.

Compression check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Check, whether the storage battery is completely charged. In case of need charge it.
2. Warm up the engine to normal working temperature.
3. Remove the central cover.
4. Disconnect high-voltage wires from a head of cylinders.
5. Turn out candles.
6. Attach компрессометр to an opening for a spark plug of the 1st cylinder.
7. Completely press a pedal of an accelerator and a starter turn a cranked shaft of the engine.
8. Write down the maximum indication of a manometer.
9. Repeat all operations for each cylinder.

10. If a compression in one or several cylinders low, fill in in the cylinder a small amount of engine oil and repeat compression check.

If the compression increases, it indicates wear of the piston, piston rings or the cylinder.

If the compression remains low, it indicates jamming or the wrong landing of the valve.

If the compression in the next cylinders remains low, it indicates malfunction of laying of a head of cylinders or deformation of a head of cylinders.
