10.2. Search and determination of malfunctions

GENERAL INFORMATION

Problems with an automatic transmission can be connected with the engine, the control unit an automatic transmission or with hydraulic or electronic control systems.

Search of malfunctions begin with those places which can be quickly and are easily checked.

The recommended sequence of search is described below.

Step 1: Self-diagnostics

When using a tester of KJ-1 check codes of service which are written down in the control unit of an automatic transmission.

Prevention

Codes of service are displayed by means of a blinking of a bulb of indication of malfunction (a mode of keeping of transfer) when grounding DGI socket as it is shown in drawing.

Step 2: Check of an electric signal

When using a tester of KJ-1 check entrance and target signals of the control unit an automatic transmission.

Prevention

Signals can be checked also tension measurement by the voltmeter on sockets of the control unit of an automatic transmission.

Step 3: Check of mechanical system

Check values of critical speed of the engine, time of delay, pressure to lines and pressure of a butterfly valve.

Step 4: Road tests

Prevention

To carry out authentic tests of speed of the car, speed of the engine, butterfly valve opening (tension of the sensor of provision of a zaslonka) and the provision of gear wheels, for their check use KJ–1 tester.

Check points of switching of transfer, their sequence and shock loadings when switching.

After check of each of the specified points it is necessary to find the reason of emergence of malfunction. For acceleration of searches use the table of fast diagnostics.

In this table 24 possible reasons of emergence of a problem that accelerates troubleshooting are specified; check only these possible reasons by search and malfunction elimination.
